Cong. Wamp announced seven students from Anderson, Claiborne and Hamilton counties who are joining the new generation of the American military as they enter the United States Armed Services through an appointment to a service academy.
Each year, Cong. Wamp has the privilege to nominate exemplary high school students from Tennessee's Third Congressional District to qualify for appointments to the service academies, including the U.S. Military Academy at West Point, U.S. Naval Academy and U.S. Air Force Academy.
"Today's armed forces are some of the most brilliant, qualified and patriotic citizens we have ever assembled, and I am honored to have nominated these outstanding individuals to join their ranks," he said. "The students who have earned appointments to the military academies this year are the best we have to offer in the Third District having each excelled in academics, extracurricular activities and various leadership positions."
The seven appointees from Tennessee's Third District for 2007 include:
Emily Rebecca Allen
-Student at Anderson County High School
-Daughter of David and Connie Allen of Clinton
-Accepted appointment to the U.S. Air Force Academy
Michael Lee Bettis
-Student at University of Tennessee
-Son of Norris and Rebecca Bettis of Hixson
-Brother of Josh Bettis, who was graduated from the U.S. Naval Academy in 2006
-Accepted appointment to the U.S. Naval Academy
Bill Tyler Beveridge
-Student at Claiborne High School
-Son of Mike and Linda Haas of New Tazewell
-Accepted appointment to the U.S. Military Academy at West Point
Robert Alexander Copeland
-Student at the Darlington School
-Son of Robert and Lulu Copeland of Soddy Daisy
-Accepted appointment to the U.S. Military Academy at West Point
Jessica Dawn Hildebrand
-Student at the Baylor School
-Daughter of Stan and Dawn Hildebrand of Signal Mountain
-Accepted appointment to the U.S. Air Force Academy
Rachel Malek Howell
-Student at Oak Ridge High School
-Daughter of Edie Howell of Oak Ridge
-Accepted appointment to the U.S. Naval Academy
Brian Joseph Solmonson
-Student at Oak Ridge High School
-Son of Ron and Debbie Solmonson of Oak Ridge
-Accepted appointment to the U.S. Military Academy at West Point
