Roads, Trains & Whitewater improving along Ocoee
March 5, 2007

In Polk County today tourism.. Power and political leaders met to talk about further developing the region. It's part of congressman Zach Wamp's annual report on Ocoee development.
Whitewater representatives said they enjoyed their best year ever in 2006... Thanks to a new water agreement.
They hope to top it this year. And the region should also see more rail trips along the Old Line.
The railroad will run more often during the week and add more rails to the Hiwassee gorge trip.

Congressman Wamp also talked about the Corridor K project through the county. It would create a four lane highway linking cleveland to ducktown. The project would eventually give us a major highway link from Chattanooga to Asheville North Carolina.  And that might help us recruit the next major auto plant.

Rep. Zach Wamp says "It was said today that one of the things that Toyota asked about was getting product to the ports on the East coast without having to go through Atlanta.  This is one way to open up the Eastern United States."

Right now..officials are still studying a route for the highway through the Cherokee National Forrest that bypasses Highway 64.
